Of Seashells and Search
Players: Caitlyn, Karia, Kintryth, Miraen
IC Time: 22:02 on day 21, month 7, Turn 18, of the Interval. It is a summer evening.
Location: North Beach, Ista Weyr

North Beach -- Ista Weyr
Sunset at the beach: as the cool wind blows in from over the waters, the sallow sun slips below the wave-tossed sea that fades from green to black. The light of Rukbat washes the beach, the forests to your south, and the great black rock of the Weyr behind you in crimson light. The stars climb up over the Weyr and the plateau to your east, rising above the mist cast by the dancing waterfall that glows in a million firey rainbows. The black sands of the beach stretch for kilometres to the north and south, following the shoreline of the plateau. Below the pastel beauty of the blue-green sunset sky to the west, the dark smudges of the Ista Isles float on the sea, like the coils of some mythical monster.

The wet summer season oppresses the island with high humidity and sweltering temperatures. Tonight, clouds interrupt the dark, star-strewn sky and a nice, light breeze carries the scent of sea air.

It's night time, dinner just a memory, and the stars are bright where not blocked by clouds. Both moons are out, contributing to the amount of light. On the shore, white shells contrast with the black sands, shining in the night. Miraen has several small baskets, and she's gathering shells into them.

Slipping out to the beach Karia is barefoot and clad in a skirt instead of boots and breeches, though she wears the same blouse. She spots Miraen and smiles then walks closer, "Like some help gathering?" she asks, "show me what kind you like and I'll help..."

Miraen is so intent on gathering that she doesn't notice Karia's approach, and starts slightly when she hears the voice. She smiles, though, and says "Sure! Mostly I'm looking for tiny unbroken conical shells and any size unbroken bivalve half-shells." She hands over a small stack of baskets and ads "We can share what you gather, too. There are way too many here for me to use every one."

Karia smiles and nods her head, taking some baskets. She squats and starts to gather, picking them out slowly, discarding the ones that are chipped or broken. "I wouldn't mind taking a few home to the Hold.. thanks.." she says, moving a bit, picking up more.

Miraen nods. "They're pretty, no matter what you do with them." She gathers in silence some more, then asks "How long are you planning on staying this time around?"

Karia nods her head and looks over what she has then looks up, "Oh.. I'm not sure.. a while yet..I need to meet with the Master Healer and deliver some things.." and she goes back to plucking shells from the sands.

Miraen pauses to nod, then asks "How do you like it here so far?"

Karia smiles, "Oh I like it just fine.. everyone is very nice.. I even went to see the eggs, they're something else.." She pauses in her gathering and runs her fingers through the cool, sandy shells.

Miraen smiles. "That's good to hear, about everyone being nice. I'm not much of an egg watcher myself, but they are an interesting lot this time." She finishes filling the last basket she has, then "How are you doing with your shells?"

Karia nods her head an listens then snaps from her little moment of thoughtfulness and tilts the basket toward Miraen. She's gathered quite a few, pretty ones, "I hope I've gotten ones you can use.." she says softly.

Miraen says "How about you can keep that lot, and the basket? I think I got enough to last myself for quite a while."

Karia blinks some and her mouth drops open a little, "Oh ma'am..I couldn't.. I mean.. I COULD but.. are you sure you don't want them?" she asks, peering down at her basket of treasures.

Miraen pauses, then nods and smiles. "I'm positive -- and please, just call me Miraen. You probably rank me right now, anyway."

Karia lifts a brow at Miraen, "Rank you?" she asks, then blinks a little. "But I will use your name if you wish, and thank you for the shells.. maybe someone can make something of them back home."

Miraen says "I'm sure someone will figure something out. They're a good souveneir to remember this place by as well."

From over the ocean, a dragonpair sooner or later appears, though the blue's dappled hide lends him in extremely well with moonlight, sea and sky. It's likely only when the dragon becomes QUITE a bit more obvious - say, when his sleek, tough form is already swooping down towards the beach to backwing - that he and his rider will be fully seen in detail. Twin sand whorls are set off from his wingtips, and soon after Kintryth settles, the short woman aboard his neck will skitter to the ground - black sands puffing up from beneath her sandals. "Go ahead..." comes Caitlyn's light alto, obviously directed to the beast - the brunette patting his nose affectionately, then stepping back while her dragon waddles out into the surf. For the moment, Cait (with her basket of glows in hand) only glances at the two gals a little further up the beach, not wanting to interfere.

Karia nods her head at Miraen but it is the shadow of the blue that draws her gaze skyward. Like a child she looks and her mouth parts a bit to watch the massive beast land, so graceful..and her eyes blink once, still on the blue while he makes his way to the water.. She stands just like that, staring at him, a smile forming where parted lips once formed an "O".

Miraen follows Karia's gaze and grins when she sees what's up. "Pretty big close up, aren't they?" She waves over to Caitlyn in a friendly fashion, even if she can't quite recognize her in the light provided.

That blue wades out to a point just below his shoulders - thereby keeping his straps free of seawater - paddling along almost lazily in the warm sea, his azure, multifaceted eyes lambent, and spinning a slowly. Kintryth will finally turn his head towards the pair of girls as the waving attracts his attention, and then shift his gaze to his rider - crooning to Caitlyn softly. "Yeah yeah, Kint..." the brunette mumbles almost softly enough not to be overheard, the woman then offering up a small wiggle of fingers at Miraen - giving off a low sigh, then trudging languidly over to the pair. This seems to make Kintryth happy, for the small blue glances back out to sea, beginning to paddle-swim again.

Karia just nods absently and tilts her head, "So...majestic..and..graceful.." she comments then the crooning makes her smile and she watches the interaction between dragon and rider before noticing said rider walking their direction. She stands, holding her basket of shells, skirt hiked up and tied on one side, barefooted and simply awed at the moment.

Miraen inclines her head politely as recognition dawns and says "Hello, bluerider. How are you and Kintryth this evening?"

And Kintryth appears as just such a vison of majesty and gracefe as Karia watches him, the dappled blue giving a few wriggles and serpentine-like motions - possibly hamming it up before the girl while he swims. A rough snort from the rider to her beast, and she'll don a quiet bit of a smile as she pulls up before both young ladies. "Heya..." is her laconic greeting as Cait peers between the two, one dark brow arching up as Miraen speaks her bondmate's name. "Okay...we must've met before, or at least you and Kint did. Pardon me if I can't place your face, now. I don't get out alot, except for food and drills." A small scritch of the tanned skin on one forearm, and the woman will try for another introduction, a little smoother, this time. "Caitlyn, blue Kintryth's."

Caitlyn quickly enough adds, "Oh, same as usual. Okay." in repsonse to Miraen's inquiry.

Karia smiles and then waits, watching between Miraen and Caitlyn, though her eyes drift back to the blue and she repeats the name to herself, "Kintryth.." and she smiles at Caitlyn. "I'm Karia..nice to meet you, lovely blue you have there..or that has you there.." she says with a sweet sort of blush.

Miraen smiles encouragingly toward Karia, then adds an introduction of her own. "I'm Miraen, formerly a basket weaver here; currently a candidate."

"Well met, Karia. Kint says thank you," comes the quiet, almost formal greeting from Caitlyn's mouth, her golden-brown eyes quietly observing that blush for a moment, then turning to Miraen to observe her and her seashell collection. "Nice to meet you...again, likely, Miraen. Yeah, I saw the white knot. Congratulations." Back out at sea, Kintryth is dipping his head into the water, seeming to play submariner - the blue heading back in towards shore - finally climbing up onto the black sands just before the three womenfolk. A long look down at them, and the dragon suddenly shakes himself like a puppy, likely drenching everyone in the vicinity with seawater. "GAH! KINTRYTH!" Cait's bark rings out as she's ducking away into the cover of her arm...and it's thusly that the rider misses out on her blue stretching his nose out...and quite forwardly and lightly tapping Karia in the belly. "WHAT? Oh, damn it, Kint! Why can't you just do it like most of the others?!" A grumble at her beast as she looks up again at him, and then the brunette woman is rather embarrassedly eyeing Karia. "Uh...sorry for that. He wanted your attention. Kintryth think you should Stand for Talurith and Zaith's clutch. How about it?"

Karia smiles and then her head turns to see the blue emerge from the water and walk closer..and closer. Her eyes squinch up when the water starts to fly and she giggles hard then even more when he noses her belly. She pats his nose gently and stares, her hair dripping, shirt dotted, shells in the basket washed clean on top, "Hullo there.." she says then looks to the rider. "He..me?" she asks then looks back to the blue with a broad smile. Her eyes sparkle bright in the bright light of twin moons and Karia laughs delightedly, "Me.. yes..me wi..err I will.." she stammers, caught somewhere between elation and shock and even a bit of confusion.

Miraen fairly bounces. "Congratulations! It looks like you won't be going home for a while yet, then."

Caitlyn still looks rather embarrassed, though her cheeks don't color up, but she brightens quickly when Karia takes being drenched so well...AND accepts her blue's assessment. A deep warble, then long croon are called up from the beast's chest, and he makes certain to tap Karia again in the tummy - as if demanding more attention - those azure eyes spinning headily. Cait...finally gives off a low chuckle when the girl accepts, and again when Kint is splaying himself out on the sand, nosing at Karia. "He says 'good,' Karia. He wouldn't take no for an answer." Snort. "You know this means you'll be at the Weyr all the time now, until the eggs hatch." A nod from Kintryth, and Cait continues, "And it means lots of rules. No sex, no going outside of the Weyr withough permission, no fighting, no disrespecting those that rank you...yaddayadda..." Smirk. "Oh, and Kint wants to get you to the barracks right away." A sudden stare at her blue, and an eyeroll. "He wants to be sure you're safely stowed away so he can get back to his swimming."

Karia blinks over at Miraen then back to Caitlyn and nods her head before looking back to the blue. She rubs over his head, whatever she can reach and smiles at him, giggling again when he pushes at her belly. "Is he sayin I'm fat?" she says teasingly, then sobers a bit to hear the rules. "Yes ma'am.." she answers then blinks, "Barracks..right ma'am.." and she nods but looks a little bewildered, "I should.. go now.." and she hugs against him before he toddles off.

Miraen says "You're lucky -- it's early enough in search that a lot of the good cots are left." She smiles toward Caitlyn, "Clear skies, if I don't run into you in the barracks when curfew hits."

"He's willing to give you a quick ride there...most likely to SEE you into the barracks..." Caitlyn smirks at Karia, then her blue - who's still trying to whuffle at the girl. "Nah, not fat. Just that *he wants you*. He can get possessive about his picks." Grin. "Kint just wants you to climb on him - but you can walk there, if you feel like it." A pull back of the blue's head, a soft CHUFF at his rider, and he'll eyeball the girl with that huge, azure eye again. "If you want, we'll take BOTH of you back to the barracks, if Miraen wants to go, too. S'almost near bedtime, anyhow, for you lot." Twinkle.

Karia nearly gasps and nods her head, "I've never been on one.. I can really?" she asks, already tucking her basket up nice and safe in her satchel. "I'd be honored, Sir Blue.." she says all formal and cute, then curtsies to him.

Miraen doesn't take long at all to decide. "Yes, please, so long as it's all right with him." As an aside to Karia she murmurs "I hope I never get tired of flying."

Well, now that just takes the cake in Kintryth's huge eyes! That 'sir' makes his neck arch quite regally, and then he stretches out again, awaiting their mounting up on his gleaming hide, neck. "Oh, he's charmed now!" Laughter from Cait, and she'll scramble-vlimb aboard the blue's proffered foreleg first, then help first Karia, then Miraen up to it with her - making it a progressive climb up and in between his neckridges. "Oh, of course he doesn't mind. He can keep an eyes on BOTH of you, then." Snicker. Once all are in tight, Cait will secure straps about all three of them, then direct Kintryth to stand, crouch. "It's been TURNS for me, and I *still* love to fly, Miraen. Don't worry about losing that thrill. Now hold on tight with legs and arms!"

Karia giggles wildly and nods her head to climb up too, "Of course he can, he is a knight in blue shininig armor.." she says with a nod, she's quite enamored herself. "Oooh...we're pretty far up here.."

Miraen climbs up with ease born of practice and settles in as she's buckled in. Almost tentatively she pats the blue hide in front of her, beaming as she does so.

All of the women feel the massive power thrumming in the lanky blue's body as he crouches deep, unfurls his large wings - and then quickly vaults himself skyward - out over the ocean! Flap-flaps of effort sound off in the heavy Istan air, but Kintryth is more than equal to the task of quick flight - bearing them all up high enough to clear the plateau, then to the Weyr, and the barracks-proper.
